The free-market economy is a almost a negative way to address poverty because it makes the rich wealthier and the poor even poorer. The free-market economy is the reason why the wealth divide in America is so great. The 1% in America control over 85% of all wealth in America. One way to address this is to take money from the rich and redistribute it to the poor. Under communism, theoretically there should be no wealth divide since all people are equal. (not my personal views, just an argument )

OP appears to lack considerable understanding of what communism actually means. It is a common misconception that Communism means the free sharing of property, to quote the simple definition of Communism provided by Karl Marx (the founder of the modern Communist movement).
"In this sense, the theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property."
Now communism is a bit broader than that in that now the final stage of a Marxist society (or the post revolution stage of an anarcho-communist/collectivist/syndicalist) would be characterised by:
1. No private property. 2. Collectivised control over the means of production. 3. Lack of nations, governments or states. 4. Social equality between different groups.
As for it being the solution absolutely not, ignoring that it flys in the face of modern economics of virtually every school not primarily motivated by fanatical ideology and that it requires an authoritarian government (at least according to Marx in chapter 2 of the communist manifesto, Bakunin differed considerably but his movement of anarchist communist has never been able to maintain a state past 3 years and always failed to eliminate property).
The real problem is that property is the foundation of the western tradition of liberty (going back to the Barons revolt and great charter in 1215) and with its destruction the freedoms we westerners enjoy will fall too. Because if there is one lesson we should take from Robert Fitzwalter it is that common property is not really common property, it is the kings property and through it's existence it would make us serfs.
Marx admits to the communist destruction of freedoms in the communist manifesto when he says:
"There are, besides, eternal truths, such as Freedom, Justice, etc, that are common to all states of society. But Communism abolishes eternal truths..."
