Intro: The end of the Civil War brought new agricultural advances as the government encouraged more people to migrate west to settle and establish more land, expanding the agrarian economy.
Thesis: Although the 1860s brought technological advancements to the railroad system and new government policies, like the Homestead Act, which encouraged agricultural improvements, the unpredictable economic conditions caused the majority of farmers to shift from farm families to commercial farmers before eventually moving into cities by 1900.
